atelier dos remédios

The Atelier dos Remédios – ATREM - was formed following the experience of the two architects partners, Madalena Cardoso de Menezes and Francisco Teixeira Bastos.
Although legally the office activity had just begun in January 1998 and being formally partners since 1997, they have developed projects together since 1995.
The office practice provides a wide range of services, works on residential, commercial, cultural and educational projects, providing full architecture services for public and private sectors in Portugal and abroad. ATREM has also worked in collaboration with other architects, as Manuel Vicente and Alain Salomon.
The office participated at several projects, such as isolated houses and townhouses, among some architects internationally recognized, for Bom Sucesso Design Resort, Leisure& Golf, a tourist landmark.
Since 2009 they have developed projects that include rehabilitation and extension of school facilities under the modernization program of the Portuguese high Schools.

 

Madalena Cardoso de Menezes

Graduates as an architect in FA-UTL in 1992. Lives and works in Lisbon. She founded the ATELIER DOS REMÉDIOS in 1997, with Francisco Teixeira Bastos. In 1992 she joined the office of architect Manuel Vicente. As part of the work developed at that office, both in Portugal and in Macao, she collaborated in projecting a dressage arena for the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art, at the Queluz National Palace. She was part of the project team that came in 1st place ex-aequo when invited to tender ideas for Expo’ 98 (Lisbon, 1996). In 2001 she was invited to tender for a hotel to the Vasco da Gama
Tower, in cooperation with Arch Manuel Vicente. Academic activities – In 2003 she became Visiting Professor at the UAL –
- Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa – working with architect Manuel Vicente. After giving Urban Design classes, she is currently
teaching Architectural Design Studio.

FRANCISCO TEIXEIRA BASTOS

An architect since 1986, (FA-UTL). He founded the ATELIER DOS REMÉDIOS in 1997, with Madalena Cardoso de Menezes. In 1992, after working on three projects with architect Manuel Vicente, he became a partner in his office, where he developed the dressage arena project for the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art, at the Queluz National Palace, obtaining a “with honours” mention at the Second Architecture Triennial, in Sintra. He was part of the project team that came in 1st place ex-aequo when invited to tender ideas for Expo’ 98 ( Lisbon, 1996 ). He was Architectural Project Manager for
Manuel Vicente’s Virtual Reality Pavilion (1998). Academic activities – In 2000 he became Assistant Professor at Lisbon´s
Instituto Superior Técnico, teaching Architecture Design Studio to 3rd year students of Architecture with Professor Manuel Vicente
. In 2004, he received the degree of Aptitude Test for Teaching on the Theme: Communication Project to the Site. Since 2005 he
has taught Architectural Design Studio to 1st year students. He is currently developing his PhD thesis, which based on a more
thorough approach to his Aptitude Test for teaching investigation theme. In parallel to his professional and academic activities, he has
developed a series of artistic participatory performances with artist Marta Wengorovius since 2005, the latest one being Acção Desenho
Cívico - homenagem a Nuno Teotónio Pereira (Civic Drawing Action – homage to Nuno Teotónio Pereira), at Museu do Chiado in 2011.
