The "Giant Screen" is set between illegal housing and office blocks; between a dual carriageway and a residential quarter; between a hill and a valley; between the beginning and end of the city. In a way, it is reminiscent of the bygone concept of City Gates. On realising the importance of the object and the transformations its presence would bring, we looked upon it as more than a magnificent "giant" with flashing lights, advertising and information. Its location was the result of a combination of factors related mainly with maximizing the screen's visibility (whether travelling west-bound or east-bound) and the choice to make the screen and support building form a single structure. We therefore opted for a design that would completely surround the focal point of the structure: the panel support. < Back to Projects |
